In direct band-gap semiconductors, the donor-bound exciton provides a photonic link to the donor electron spin. Here we demonstrate high optical homogeneity and coherent population trapping of donor spins in bulk ZnO and single ZnO nanowires. We conclude with an outlook toward single donor isolation and donor nuclear spin access.
