Abstract

Work presents an electromagnetically-controlled shape morphing composite (e-morph) as a new material in soft robotics area. The structure is composed of silicon with liquid metal channels and granular core. Composite can change its shape in a controlled way by electromagnetic force, while the jamming mechanism allows the granules used in the core to maintain the desired shape. This paper provides a detailed description of material properties. Additionally the modeling procedure and potential application is presented.
