Copper and aluminum alloys in a lap-joint configuration are successfully joined at solid-state by electrically assisted pressure joining (EAPJ). For joining, electric current with different current densities is directly applied to the specimen assembly during continuous axial plastic deformation. All experiment cases are carried out at nearly the same temperature with constant displacement rate and joining time. Microstructural analysis confirms that the joint is completely generated without melting for the selected materials. In addition, the mechanical properties of the joints are evaluated by tensile experiment, which suggests that joint properties are strongly affected by the electric current density. The present study demonstrates that the concept of EAPJ is promising and applicable for the fabrication of the joint of dissimilar material combinations.
