I will review recent advances, at the level both of catalysts and systems, in efficiently electrochemically reducing CO2 and CO to chemicals (such as ethylene and propanol) and fuels (e.g. methane, ethanol). I will look at issues such as total voltage, single-pass utilization of the reagents, and overall energetic efficiency.
