In this study, the authors create various open structures that reflect the atomic-level structural database, and design porous structures with higher Young's modulus. Firstly, the atomic positions were imported from Materials Project, an open access materials database. Then, we modeled the open structures by considering the atomic positions as vertices and connecting them with circular 1D beams. Young's modulus of the open structures was obtained by compression tests along the x-, y- and z-axis using the FEM tool. Through this process, open structures were modeled by various atomic structures belonging to different spacegroup. Among these lots of structures, authors introduce elastically stiff structures. We find which geometric factors influence the mechanical properties in open structures and discuss how these factors affect to make higher Young’s modulus.

This work was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF) grant funded by the Korea government(MSIT) (No. 2020R1A5A1019131).
