Tutorial EL08—Diamond Surfaces for Advanced Electronic and Quantum Applications

This tutorial will explore the tailored design of diamond surfaces to enable advanced electronic and quantum technologies.

This tutorial will explore the tailored design of diamond surfaces to enable advanced electronic and quantum technologies. Key topics include:

  • Surface termination and modification of diamond, including H-termination, O-termination and hybrid terminations
  • Characterizing surface terminations through spectroscopy, microscopy and electrical methods
  • Tuning surface terminations to control electronic band structure and transport
  • Designing bio-functionalized diamond surfaces for quantum biosensing
  • Leveraging controlled diamond interfaces for fluorescent nanodiamond imaging
  • Engineering diamond surfaces for power electronics and high-frequency devices
  • Correlating surface chemistry with quantum sensor performance
  • Diamond for NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Optimizing diamond surfaces for quantum computing applications
  • Challenges and outlook for diamond surface engineering

     

    Participants will learn fundamentals and latest advances in controlling and applying engineered diamond surfaces. The critical role of tailored diamond interfaces for electronics, quantum technologies and biosensing applications will be emphasized. Key learning objectives include:
