The Fundamentals of the Kubo Formula and Its Relevance in Modern Material Science
Jose Hugo Garcia Aguilar, Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
We will introduce the notion of nonequilibrium physics and its relevance in modern condensed matter physics. This will include a presentation of the Kubo formula and its application to conductivity, spin relaxation, topological physics and spin torques. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of having methodologies that allow for computing the Kubo formula.
Introduction to LSQUANT
Jose Hugo Garcia Aguilar, Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
We will present linear-scaling quantum transport (LSQUANT) methodologies and connect the numerical parameters with physical quantities. We will explain the set of approximations required to make these calculations efficient and discuss how to reduce computational scaling at each step. At the end of the session, we will introduce open-source LSQUANT implementation and show how to install it, leaving everything set to make practical examples in the final block.
Practical examples of LSQUANT
Jose Hugo Garcia Aguilar, Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
We will show a set of examples to demonstrate the software's capabilities. We will consider transport in 2D materials, in particular graphene, and we will focus on how to set the simulation parameters to obtain predictive simulations, as well as what are the common pitfalls and their consequences in the numerics.
Techniques of Epitaxy of 2D Materials Growth
Marco Minissale, Aix-Marseille University
We will discuss the growth of 2D materials from basic to the new generation of 2D topological materials such as stanine and plumbene. We will discuss issues related also to stability in ambient air.
Analytical Techniques of Characterization
Marco Minissale, Aix-Marseille University
Characterization of morphology of 2D topological materials and highlighting topological features techniques. How to highlight QSHE and mapping spin in 2D topological materials.
Overview of the Different Studied 2D Materials and Emerging Applications and Limitations of 2D Materials
Marco Minissale, Aix-Marseille University
We will discuss the features of different 2D materials and growing techniques. We will also give an overview of the main applications of 2D materials and also their potential implementation exploiting topological features such as thermoelectric effect.
