Recent years have witnessed the emergence of a new class of moiré materials, where energy bands are designed and experimentally realized by controlling the relative twist angle of consituent layers. We review here experimental techniques used in realizing moiré materials with exmaples from graphene and transistion metal dichalcogenide heterostructures.
