Quanxi Jia Named Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materials Research

Quanxi JiaWARRENDALE, PA—The Materials Research Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Quanxi Jia, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York (SUNY), as the next Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materials Research.

Professor Jia, MRS Fellow (FMRS), is National Grid Professor of Materials Research, SUNY Empire Innovation Professor, and SUNY Distinguished Professor, University at Buffalo.

Jia is a distinguished MRS member and volunteer. He has served as 2018 MRS Spring Meeting Chair, Symposium Organizer, and is a member of the MRS Fellow Subcommittee. He has been a JMR Principal Editor, was elevated to Associate Editor in 2023, and agreed to serve as Interim Editor-in-Chief in August 2024. During this time, Jia focused on strategic and tactical journal improvements. Jia was a founding Editor-in-Chief of Materials Research Letters and has authored/co-authored over 500 peer-reviewed journal articles and holds 50 U.S. patents.

Speaking on his appointment, Jia commented: I am honored to be appointed Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materials Research as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. As the premier materials society, MRS continues to embrace and lead the forefront of materials research, and I look forward to building on JMR’s strong legacy. The journal will remain committed to fostering high-quality research, strengthening connections with the materials community, and maintaining a rigorous yet efficient review process to showcase groundbreaking discoveries that drive innovation in the field.”
