Amit Misra Named Editor-in-Chief of MRS Bulletin

Amit MisraWARRENDALE, PA—The Materials Research Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Amit Misra, University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, as the next Editor-in-Chief of MRS Bulletin. He succeeds Editor Gopal R. Rao, who retired in December 2024.

 

Amit Misra, MRS Fellow (FMRS), is the Edward DeMille Campbell Collegiate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. Misra is also Faculty Director of the Michigan Materials Research Institute, and past Department Chair (2014–2022) of Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to joining Michigan in 2014, he was Laboratory Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico. His research focuses on complex alloys, electron microscopy, nanomechanics, additive manufacturing, thin films, with emphasis on designing materials with enhanced functionality through understanding and control of interface and defect phenomena.  As a long-time member of MRS, Misra served as a Volume Organizer in year 2009 for MRS Bulletin, guest co-editor for theme issues in December 2010 and January 2019, then chaired the Editorial Board (2019–2022). He has also served as a Meeting Chair of the 2012 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit.

Speaking on his appointment, Misra said, “I am deeply honored to step into the role of Editor-in-Chief of MRS Bulletin, particularly in the year 2025, which marks the 50th anniversary of MRS Bulletin. In the past 50 years, the energy, passion, and diligence of MRS member volunteers have firmly established MRS Bulletin as a recognized outlet for publications of the latest and greatest in the interdisciplinary field of materials research. Our vision for the future is to establish MRS Bulletin as the top journal capturing current breakthroughs and fundamental advances in research in both functional and structural materials.”
