Symposium SB12-Novel Soft Materials and Systems for Artificial Skin, Soft Robotics and Haptics

The development of novel soft, conformable and/or stretchable materials and devices, has enabled the development of innovative bio-integrated electronic systems that can be employed in real application scenarios, such as epidermal electronics for vital sign monitoring, ultra-conformable arrays of tactile transducers for electronic skins and haptics, passive and active materials for artificial biomimetic muscles, soft neural implants and smart or minimally invasive surgical tools. Indeed, novel materials, device architectures and fabrication technologies are key to address the unique requirements of stretchable devices trying to mimic not only the functionality but also the mechanical properties of the human skin, muscles and beyond.

This symposium is open to all approaches using extremely conformable electronic devices and will bring together researchers from highly diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds such as material scientists, polymer chemists, device physicists as well as developers from industry. The symposium will be focused on the design, modelling and development of innovative materials and devices for soft, compliant and stretchable electronics, as well as on their applications in various scenarios, from soft robotics, prosthetic, wearable systems etc.
