Symposium EN02-Halide Perovskite Materials, Processing and Devices

Halide perovskites have stimulated considerable research interest in the field of optoelectronic devices including solar cells, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), lasers and photodetectors. Accumulated research efforts have promoted unprecedentedly rapid enhancement of device performance to rival with established technologies such as silicon solar cells and organic LEDs. Recent major breakthroughs in device performance resulted from advanced understanding on material chemistry, process engineering and device physics. This symposium focuses on the most recent progress in understanding and developments of halide perovskite materials, processing, and devices as well as their reproducibility to catalyze performance breakthrough toward thermodynamic limits.

Remaining challenges in the field are not only concerned with the device efficiency, but include stability and toxicity of the perovskite optoelectronic devices. The operational instability of perovskite devices is a major hurdle toward commercialization. Thus, this symposium also aims at revisiting properties of the halide perovskite materials and devices in terms of stability under practical operational conditions such as under light, bias, heat and their combinations. It involves physico-chemical and theoretical investigations of atomic scale properties determining macroscale functionality. The link to macroscopic functionality includes fundamental studies and modelling on the device level to disentangle bulk and interface effects, in particular during aging. Addressing the toxicity issue via various approaches is also of interest to this symposium. This would include development of alternative perovskite or perovskite inspired materials and addressing toxic Pb by using chemical approaches.

  • Influence of lattice strain and dynamic structure
  • Stabilization of metastable phases
  • Origins of surface and bulk defects and their role as recombination centers
  • Crystal growth: Energetics and kinetics
  • Scalable fabrication processes and process reproducibility
  • Charge transport mechanism at bulk and interfaces
  • Surface and interface science (band structure, defects, charge dynamics)
  • Disentangling (electronic/ionic/chemical) mechanisms of transient reversible and irreversible processes on various time scales
  • Toxicity (emerging perovskite or perovskite-inspired materials, technologies to address Pb)
  • Halide perovskite-based optoelectronic devices including (tandem) solar cells, light emitting diodes, photodetectors, and similar
