Symposium SM05-Biomaterials for Tissue Interface Regeneration
Interface tissue engineering is a field that deals with repair or regeneration interface of different type of tissues. Examples of such interfaces for tissues are ligament-to-bone, tendon-to-bone and cartilage-to-bone, etc. Regeneration of such interfaces will require combination of different biomaterials, combination of different mechanical properties and combination of different biochemical signals. Thus, the use of conventional biomaterials approaches is limited. This symposium will focus on the development of materials and engineering of their surfaces to fabricate multi-functional scaffolds for tissue interface regeneration.
Topics will include:
- Biomaterials for osteochondral defects
- Gradient-responsive interfaces, chemical, biochemical, mechanical, thermal, or light-based for tissue regeneration
- Multi-phase and multi-functional scaffolds for tissue engineering
- In vitro models for interface tissue engineering
- Biomaterials for ligament-to-bone, tendon-to-bone and cartilage-to-bone
- Biomaterials for cardiac, vascular, and generally soft tissue
- Biomaterials for dental, including antibacterial features
- Natural cellularised polymers, or promoting interfaces from cell-side
- Surface functionalization, by plasma, laser, wet-chemistry or other techniques
