2018 MRS Fall Meeting
Symposium BI02-The Future of Materials Science Academia—Preparing for a Career in Higher Education
This symposium will help develop the next generation of faculty in materials science and engineering, both in the US and abroad. Featured sessions will include technical guidance for proposal writing, insights from NSF career winners, a panel discussion on planning a career in higher education, and a networking session for graduate students and faculty to discuss higher education careers. An additional panel discussion session will focus on cultivating funding sources for research and the art of developing collaborations. Best practice sessions for early course development, teaching strategies, and materials science extracurricular innovations will also be featured. The symposium welcomes abstract submissions for topics fitting within the scope of the symposium, with special focus on proposal writing technical guidance, and advice for early career success in mentoring, course development, and outreach.
