2020 MRS Spring Meeting

Update on Coronavirus

After thoughtful deliberations, the Materials Research Society (MRS) leadership has made the difficult, but necessary, decision to cancel the 2020 MRS Spring Meeting scheduled for April 13-17, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona.  We believe this is the responsible thing to do in light of the challenges introduced by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).  The health and safety of our members, attendees, staff, and community are our top priority, making it inadvisable for our community to gather for our traditional MRS Spring Meeting.

This is a profound disappointment for the many MRS volunteers and staff who have devoted several years of planning to make the 2020 MRS Spring Meeting a memorable, impactful event.  However, we are committed to working with the Meeting Chairs, organizers, authors, exhibitors, and sponsors to re-schedule, as practical, programming to an upcoming event.  We request your patience, as we have not yet finalized all the details.  But rest assured that the Society has been exploring contingency plans for a number of months and will share more information soon.

Our decision to cancel was based on the following factors:

  • Concern from our members, authors, attendees, exhibitors and vendors.
  • Diligent monitoring of recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Government and employer travel restrictions.

Everyone who has registered to attend the Meeting will receive a full registration refund. Once your registration cancellation is processed, you will receive confirmation in a separate email.  You do not need to contact MRS to initiate this process unless you do not receive the cancellation confirmation by April 15.

We ask for your patience as we work through the many details required to cancel a meeting of this size and to coordinate logistics for alternative opportunities to service the community.  Please visit our FAQ page for additional information.  We will update these pages as additional information becomes available.

Again, we thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.
